Citizens have gathered throughout the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are seen as reliable by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the return of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled formal commemorations until mid-October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israelis killed in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' representatives met in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent delegate familiar with the discussions revealed that an evening round of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the day's discussions ended without significant progress, because of conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the deal.

He commented that the talks are "tough and have yet to achieve any significant progress," but pointed out that intermediaries are working hard to narrow the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Key Issues in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The swap of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance deliveries
  • Post-war management of the area

Citizen Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling lived through the incident on the gathering, where many attendees were murdered and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "No location seems like home any longer and until all the hostages come back no one will be secure."

"After we see everyone home again, we can feel relief again. Then we can begin to heal," she concluded.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to express their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel reports 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Activist Atalia Regev stated: "It's necessary do every compromise required for the abducted to come back home. But we really want promises that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that around 70% of Israelis want the conflict to conclude in return for the release of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the gathering, mourners gathered to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and explosions could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were noted in the dawn of that day in the west side district, area and zone areas and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the evening comes, the fear arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, explained.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my little child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm worried that this truce will not be completed and that the war will come back to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis said another two dead people had been transported. One of them was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while looking for aid to the south region, medics said.

The region's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
