Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Chief Executive Steps Down Following Shift Into Fried Chicken.

The boss of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while diversifying the chain into fried chicken has been replaced after conflicts with its directors.

Leadership Transition

Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in charge, and will be replaced on an interim basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a long-term chief.

The outgoing executive, who served at Domino's for a substantial period, had sought to redirect Britain's largest pizza takeaway chain towards poultry-based products, stating recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed poultry was the fastest-growing protein in the globe.

Board Tensions

Sources suggest that there was tension between Rennie and the governance team over his focus and direction, although the company's release said he was departing “through mutual consent”.

New Brand Launch

In September, Domino's unveiled its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which Rennie referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the group – and is trialling it in 210 outlets in the North West region and the province.

While the firm is still intending to launch it across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as scheduled, it considers fried chicken as a supplement for its core pizza business.

Board Comment

Ian Bull, the company chairman, commented: “The board believes that there are a series of prospects to drive further growth and performance improvement in our primary operations. We are focused on finding the right chief executive to oversee the careful implementation of that development approach.”

Market Challenges

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has 13 million customers in the UK and Ireland, said orders declined by 1.5% in the latest quarter. In the summer, it alerted that the food delivery sector had “become tougher” as it attributed weaker consumer confidence in the run-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a significant fall in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut disclosed the closing of dozens of outlets a last month, after the business behind its British operations fell into administration.

Wellness Efforts

Responding to market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has rolled out reduced-calorie items, such as its Thin & Crispy line of bakes below 400 kcals as well as meat-free and gluten-free pizzas. A big pepperoni bake has over 2,300 kcal. A big margherita has 2,171, while a small has 909 kcal.

Interim Leadership

The interim chief has been with the company since the recent past, and previously worked for the gambling company a well-known operator. It is thought that she does not want to assume the chief executive role on a full-time basis.

Frampton stated: “Our team has a several current expansion and efficiency programs that we will be focused on executing at a rapid rate.”

She said these involved ongoing development on the organization's procurement system and product development, and its loyalty scheme.

Domino's is also without a permanent chief financial officer until March 16, when Andrea joins from the drinks company a well-known firm. Until then, Snow serves as interim finance chief.
