Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
